Seeking Public Input on SHT Master Plan Draft

We did it! Our first SHT Master Plan is available for your review and final input.

The Superior Hiking Trail Association (staff, board, volunteers and land managers), with the consulting assistance of Arrowhead Regional Development Commission, has completed the draft version of the SHT Master Plan.

We are collecting final feedback from the public through April 12, 2024.

What is the Superior Hiking Trail’s Master Plan?

The Master Plan is a comprehensive roadmap that outlines the vision, goals, and strategies for the development and preservation of the Superior Hiking Trail for the next 10 years. It will serve as a guiding document for trail management, sustainability initiatives, and future enhancements. We want to ensure that the SHT remains a pristine and accessible wilderness experience while accommodating the increasing interest in outdoor activities.

The document represents 14 months of data collection, public input, research and analysis. It also includes input from hundreds of trail users, volunteers and supporters. Not only did our awesome trail community provide feedback, they also help collect the data by volunteering to conduct asset inventory assessments and trail user intercept surveys. Thank you all who have participated and given their time and expertise so generously to this endeavor.

The final plan will provide guidance and help set priorities for the Superior Hiking Trail Association for the next decade. Thank you for embarking on this journey together as a trail community! Together, we created a Master Plan that ensures this trail remains Minnesota’s premier natural footpath for generations to come.
