New Route Coming Near Silver Creek
January 15, 2021
A new route of the Superior Hiking Trail is coming next spring to the Silver Creek area near Two Harbors. Permissions have been secured to reroute around a parcel of private property where the landowner recently revoked permission for the Trail across their land. In the meantime, a short section of the SHT in between Reeves Road and Lake County Road 301 is temporarily closed to all users.
While we are disappointed to lose the original route of the Trail in this area, we deeply appreciate the landowner’s generous timeline, which has allowed us the ability to plan and secure permissions for a new route. We anticipate that this reroute will be among our first priorities in the spring so that SHT users can once again pass through the area.
While a short stretch of the Trail is temporarily closed, the popular snowshoe route from Lake County Road 301 Trailhead to Silver Creek remains open.
The Superior Hiking Trail remains open from Reeves Road Trailhead to Gun Club Road and from Lake County Road 301 Trailhead to Silver Creek Campsite. The SHTA has hired a contractor to plow the Lake County Road 301 Trailhead so that trail users can continue to enjoy the popular snowshoeing route from the trailhead to Silver Creek this winter.
As you explore the Superior Hiking Trail, please remember that you’re often on private lands. By recreating responsibly, we can all be part of ensuring a safe and connected Superior Hiking Trail.
