Volunteers are the stars of the Superior Hiking Trail! In 2023, volunteers gave more than 8,000 hours of their time and energy to the SHT.

Volunteers: adopted sections and campsites; cleared trails with chainsaws; built boardwalks, stone stairs, and stone creek crossings; cleaned drainage to keep the trail dry; painted blazes; lopped brush; built new trail; weed whipped; staffed our Trail Store; tabled at events; served on our board; took asset inventories and intercept surveys; and some volunteers even cooked to keep other volunteers well fed on multi-day Trail Renewal Projects.

We want to celebrate your accomplishments and say thank you! Please join us at our Grand Marais 2023 Volunteer Appreciation Party. Each party will have prizes, swag, appetizers and beverages, a short presentation, and time to socialize with other SHT volunteers.
