This 3 mile hike is an introduction to a spectacular river that is one of the more than two dozen rivers that fill the souls (and water bottles) of hikers on the SHT. Guides will share insights about river geology, micro climates, plants and animals, and interactions of the river and the big lake. Hikers will also learn about the challenges and rewards of maintaining the trail at its many water crossings. This hike starts with a .7 mile climb but the ascent is largely gradual with good footing. Guides will turn around at approximately 1.5 miles. Hikers may opt to return to the trailhead with the guides or they may continue further on the trail on their own if they wish.
