October 12, 2019 @ 10:00 am - 2:00 pm
Grand Portage Trailhead to Jay Cooke Visitor Center, 6.6 miles
Saturday, October 12, 10am
The final weekend of our Fall Colors series features back-to-back-to back fantastic hikes. Join us for the first, a 6.6-mile journey, led by SHTA’s Trail Information Manager Jody Nonnemacher, to explore one of her favorite sections of the SHT. Take off along the historic Grand Portage Trail before climbing up-and-down through maple, oak, and birch forests, which will be in full fall color-mode, on your way to end point at the Visitor Center. Be sure to check out the swinging bridge over the St. Louis River at the end of your hike! Meet at Jay Cooke Visitor Center.
Note: You are required to have a MN state park parking pass for the Jay Cooke Visitor Center or the Grand Portage Trailhead, if you decide to park there. Please plan to arrive early if you need to purchase a pass. You can also purchase an annual pass at any MN state park.
Directions to Jay Cooke Visitor Center: From I-35, take the Carlton Exit #235 and go right (east) on Hwy. 210 for 5.5 miles to Jay Cooke State Park Visitor Center.
