BIPOC Snowshoe/Hike
March 16 @ 10:00 am - 12:30 pm
SHTA, in partnership with BIPOC Outdoors Twin Ports, is offering an all-BIPOC snowshoe/hike series this winter. Whether we snowshoe or hike will depend on snow levels. If you self-identify as Black, Indigenous, or a person of color, please join us! If you have questions about what to expect, what gear you need, or where to get gear, please see our FAQ.
Spirit Mountain
Sunday, February 18th, 10 a.m.-12:30 p.m.
Hike difficulty: Moderate – 3.4 miles with 400 feet of elevation gain and loss.
We will enjoy the serene beauty of the Northwoods winter season as we hike Spirit Mountain, spotting the birds that stay local throughout the winter, and watching for the critters that leave their tracks behind in the snow. We will also talk about outdoor skill principles like Leave No Trace and winter safety so that you leave with a deeper knowledge of how to move through winter conditions best equipped!
Brewer Loop
Saturday, March 16th, 10 a.m.-12:30 p.m.
Hike difficulty: Easy – 3.3 miles with 470 feet of elevation gain and loss.
On the Brewer Loop, our initial ascent leads to a sweeping view of the Duluth Harbor and then we’ll head back into the dense forest watching for birds and other critters along the way. We will also talk about outdoor skill principles like Leave No Trace and winter safety.
Both hikes will include several breaks along the way to catch our breath and learn more about the environments around us. Hot beverages and light snacks provided.
