The Superior Hiking Trail Association (SHTA) has a new way to spread the word about Leave No Trace—this time with a little help from Bigfoot.

In partnership with videographer Marty Anderson, SHTA created two short videos that blend humor with practical tips on how to care for the Trail. Featuring the North Shore’s most elusive resident, the videos cover topics like proper waste disposal, litter management, and other ways to reduce your impact while hiking.

“When Sasquatch reached out to the SHTA with some concerns about trash and human waste in his home – the woods along the Superior Hiking Trail – we thought Sassy’s offer of making some educational videos with us would be a huge gift! Our hope is these videos will make you laugh and inspire all hikers, runners, and backpackers to treat Sassy’s home with the same respect they expect visitors to treat their home. Be like Sasquatch! Leave No Trace,” said Annie Nelson, former Development and Communications Director.

The idea was simple: make important Leave No Trace lessons both fun and memorable. Bigfoot’s starring role keeps things lighthearted while reminding us that even the biggest creatures know how to protect the places they love.

“The SHTA team put together a video that not only gets to the point of a trail etiquette problem but also is fun to watch.  Leave no trace should always be an important part of your hike,” said Martin Anderson, SHTA volunteer and videographer for this project.

The videos are now available on the SHTA YouTube Channel and across our social media channels. Whether you’re a first-time hiker or a long-time Trail enthusiast, we hope they inspire you to tread lightly and help keep the Trail beautiful for everyone. View them here:

The Superior Hiking Trail is a 300-mile footpath that stretches from the Wisconsin border to the Canadian border, offering stunning views of Lake Superior, dense Northwoods, and rugged ridgelines. Caring for this beloved Trail is a community effort, and Leave No Trace practices are a vital part of keeping it healthy for generations to come.

The Superior Hiking Trail Association is a proud partner of Leave No Trace.
