SHTA Seeks Trail Maintenance Coordinator

Are you an aficionado of the SHT with a flair for organizing, an appetite for physical work and comfort working around power tools?

We need you as our Duluth area trail maintenance coordinator. This is a contractual position with the SHTA. The coordinator primarily organizes weed-whipping and tree-clearing for the SHT between Jay Cooke State Park and the St. Louis County line east of Duluth. You should have some familiarity with power weed whips and a chain saw, and enjoy working with volunteers. While we would like the contractor to be “on call” throughout the hiking season, most of the work is concentrated in July and August.

Help us find a new trail maintenance coordinator to organize our dedicated volunteers — like this group from the Northern Minnesota Track Club — and keep the Trail through Duluth in great shape. Photo by Shelly Thompson.

You may be familiar with Larry Sampson’s role as SHTA’s trail maintenance man in Duluth. Larry (pictured above) is stepping away from the maintenance element of his role while continuing to do special trail-building projects. The contractual position we’re seeking to fill is not intended to replicate Larry’s services. (In other words, this is easier and a smaller time commitment than what Larry had done for several years.)
