A Lovely Tale of Two Trails

There’s not much glamorous about fixing trail head parking lots. But we fixed up three of them this year, and one is, as SHTA trail development director Jo Swanson put it, “a lovely story of the northernmost mile of the SHT.”

A BRTA volunteer used this sweet machine to fill a pesky parking lot mud pit with gravel.

SHTA contributed $200 towards the gravel to fix the parking area near the northern terminus of the SHT, which we share with the Border Route Trail, and the Border Route Trail Association supplied the remaining funds and did the work.

A pretty nice join effort to get rid of a mud pit. BRTA is VERY grateful that we helped pay for it — they have few financial resources (but apparently a volunteer with a sweet machine). We deepened our friendship and made a problem area go away, all for $200.
