National Trails Day
June 4, 2016
SHTA Plans Hike Celebration, Trail Project for National Trails Day, Saturday June 4, 2016
Each June, trail groups across the country celebrate National Trails Day. The day is organized by the American Hiking Society to highlight the importance of trails. In 2016 SHTA is planning to host two hikes near Finland, MN. The long and short route options will offer hiking for almost everyone! Separate from the hikes we’ll complete a maintenance project so that you can have the opportunity to volunteer to improve the SHT.
Saturday, June 4, 10:00 AM, Both hikes meet at the Finland Recreation Center (Clair Nelson Community Center). At Hwy 61 milepost 59.3, turn left on Hwy 1 and go 6.0 miles to Lake Co. Rd 7 (Cramer Rd). Turn right and go 1.3 miles to the parking lot past the ball field at the Finland Recreation Center.
Enjoy treats before hiking to celebrate the day!
Long Hike 7.6 miles, Sonju Lake Road to Finland Recreation Center. Hike past the Baptism River, two pristine lakes, and take a boardwalk out to Lily Island.
Short Hike 4.6 miles, Finland Recreation Center to Egge Lake and Back. Hike through maple forest to gorgeous Egge Lake and return on same trail.
No pre-registration required for hikes.
