Hike Fest 2016

May 13, 2016 - May 15, 2016

It’s the 30th Anniversary of the Superior Hiking Trail this year, and it’s time to celebrate at Hike Fest 2016! We’ve invited some wonderful keynote speakers this year. On Friday night, naturalist Larry Weber will share the wonders he’s found when hiking the trail. On Saturday night, Rudi Hargesheimer will use a mix of historic SHT photos and his award-winning nature photography to tell the story of the Superior Hiking Trail.

Back by popular demand, there will be an old time dance on Saturday night, with squares and rounds. The band will be Wild Thyme led by Terrance Smith.

There are seven great hikes planned of varying lengths and difficulties. There are interesting presentations from hiking trips to wildflowers. There will be an early morning birding stroll and the Saturday afternoon Wolf Ridge ropes course.

Don’t miss the Saturday afternoon dessert potluck to celebrate the 30th Anniversary of the trail. SHTA will be providing cake, but please bring bars, cookies, or other snacks to share!

There will also be a Trail Input Session and State of the Trail Report on Saturday afternoon. For the 30th Anniversary, we’ll also be holding a SHT Fashion Show so please wear a SHT clothing item from the past 30 years. We’ll take a group photo!

And of course, we will once again hold our famous Silent Auction where you can bid on great outdoor gear, artwork and more. If you have an item to donate, please email or call the SHTA office. Also, don’t forget about SHTA store items for purchase at Hike Fest – we’ll have more new items this year, and remember — all proceeds support the trail!

Please consider ending your Hike Fest experience by helping out with the Sunday maintenance project. The project will be to brush and clear the trail from winter storms. Bring loppers and a hand saw if you have them.
