Guided Hike: Gooseberry River
July 24 @ 9:45 am - 4:00 pm
Join Master Naturalists for a guided hike through a diverse forest ecosystem as we follow Gooseberry River past Fifth Falls. You’ll see the waterfalls the park is known for and the mixed evergreen, aspen and birch forest home to 142 different species of birds, 46 mammal species and 10 reptile/amphibian species. We will stop along the route to take in the views of the falls, spy some wildlife and see evidence of busy beavers working the landscape and altering the trail. A 20 minute lunch break at Middle Gooseberry River Campsite will be the last stop. Participants can hike back at their own pace with one guide remaining at the back of line to act as a sweep.
This easy to moderate hike is 7 miles round trip with 300 feet of elevation change. Some trail portions along the river require extra caution, as they are eroded and awaiting repair.
