SUMMARY:Guided Hike - Night Hike: Brewer Park Loop via Haines Road
DESCRIPTION:Night Hike: Brewer Park Loop via Haines Road\, 3.5 miles \nSaturday\, October 12\, 7pm\n\nOur first-ever guided night hike on the SHT! Don your headlamp for this short jaunt with Steve Coz from Haines Road up to the wide-open viewpoints on the ridgeline above downtown Duluth in Brewer Park. With clear skies\, you’ll be able to catch the full moon too! Head back after taking in the sights or continue on to complete the 3.5 mile loop around the park. Meet at Haines Road Parking Lot. \nNote: This hike requires that every participant stick together in one group. You must bring a headlamp or flashlight to participate. Hikers without a light source will not be allowed on the hike. \nUpdate (October 7): Due to wet conditions\, the route of this hike has been changed to go east to Piedmont Knob and back. The purpose of this change is to avoid damaging sensitive new trail heading up to the Brewer Park loop. You’ll still be treated to good times with fellow hikers\, great (and similar to the original route’s) views\, and a nice hike on the SHT. The meeting place remains Haines Road Parking Lot\, but the distance of the out-and-back hike will be less than 3 miles. \nDirections to Haines Road Parking Lot: On I-35\, take 40th Ave. W. (Haines Rd.) Exit #253B\, go north (uphill) 1.7 miles to SHT parking lot on right.

SUMMARY:Lakewalk Improvement Project - Finish Work
DESCRIPTION:Our crews recently performed some outstanding trail renewal work (see photos here)\, building a heavy-duty boardwalk near the Hovland Lakewalk on the#SuperiorHikingTrail. The new structure will greatly improve the experience of trail users along a perpetually muddy section and keep the Trail from widening into surrounding vegetation. \nWhile our team made great progress\, there’s more work to be done to finish it up. We’ll be back at it Wednesday and Thursday\, August 14-15\, and we need a few more volunteers to help out. \nCamping will be available at the Grand Marais Municipal Campground. Tools\, PPE\, and training will be provided. \nIf you can make it either day\, please contact SHTA Trail Operations Director Tamer Ibrahim at tibrahim@superiorhiking.org to learn more.
