DESCRIPTION:Fifth Falls Snowshoe Hike\, around 2 miles \nWednesday\, January 16 10am – 12pm \nTake a hike of discovery to Fifth Falls for views of ice sculptures\, winter tracks and caves. Journey with Gooseberry Falls State Park naturalist on the Superior Hiking Trail within the park. This hike will cover 2 miles and involve steep hills. Recommended to bring walking sticks or ski poles. Bring your own snowshoes or borrow a pair from the park. There are a limited number of adult snowshoes\, send us an email or stop in at the Visitor Center to reserve your snowshoes. SUMMARY:Ely's Peak Loop Celebration with Mayor Larson (rescheduled)
DESCRIPTION:The Superior Hiking Trail Association\, in partnership with the City of Duluth Parks and Recreation Department\, recently completed work on a new section of the SHT to complete a loop at Ely’s Peak in West Duluth. We are pleased to host a celebration on October 22nd at 3:30pm with Duluth Mayor Emily Larson\, who will install a “You Are Here” map to guide trail users as they explore the new loop. The public is invited to join us at the Beck’s Road trail head (123rd Ave W) for a short walk up to the new loop for the map installation ceremony. \n\nThe new Ely’s Peak Loop is the third of the “Triple Crown of Duluth SHT Loops\,” which includes the Brewer Park and Spirit Mountain SHT Loops. With panoramic vistas and exposed rock faces\, the Ely’s Peak Loop provides an outstanding opportunity for residents and visitors to connect with nature within Duluth city limits. \nThe project was led by SHTA Trail Renewal Consultant Larry Sampson with the support of dozens of SHTA volunteers who contributed nearly 420 hours of field work on the project. Students from the Harbor City International School also contributed nearly 100 hours of volunteer work. \nThe project was funded through the City of Duluth’s St. Louis River Corridor Initiative and matching funds from SHTA. \n\nFor more information about the Ely’s Peak Loop\, visit superiorhiking.org/elys-peak-loop

This foresight\, a dusting of destiny\, and critical investment by a state-sponsored conservation fund were the ingredients a loyal\, committed and talented group of Minnesotans needed to blaze and build what would become the state’s premier natural footpath along Lake Superior’s North Shore. \nWe want to honor and celebrate the folks who launched the SHT and who made significant contributions in its 32-year history with an evening of storytelling and connecting\, with tasty hors d’oeuvres from Duluth Grill and a cash bar to bring the stories to life. SUMMARY:Volunteer - Crow Creek (North) Project
DESCRIPTION:Join SHTA volunteer crew leader Steph Hoff to build and finish a short reroute of the SHT at a new bridge over Crow Creek near Grand Marais! Volunteers will work Wednesday\, September 19 through Saturday\, September 22 on trail building. \nWe need at least 12 volunteers for each day. Volunteers can sign up for all four days or whichever day works for you. Work duties will include hauling large lumber in\, building new trail\, light carpentry\, and finish work. \nBring lunch and water\, gloves if you have them\, and anything else you need for a day on the trail: bug spray\, sunblock\, etc. Tools will be provided. \nWe’ll meet at Kadunce River Wayside at 9am\, head up to the worksite (less than one mile)\, and return no later than 4pm. \nA group campsite will be provided for volunteers Tuesday through Saturday nights\, if needed. \nTo sign up\, email SHTA trail development director Jo Swanson at jswanson@superiorhiking.org.

DESCRIPTION:A load of lumber will be delivered to Grand Marais at 10:00 AM on August 22 and we will need eight to ten volunteers to help unload it with Trail Operations Direction Tamer Ibrahim. There will be no hauling of the lumber\, simply unloading the delivery truck.
