At the Superior Hiking Trail Association, we believe wholeheartedly that spending time in nature is a basic human right. The Trail is a resource for everyone where individuals discover, learn, and connect with nature. We are committed to breaking down barriers that prevent people from spending time on the Superior Hiking Trail.
This giving season, the SHTA invites you to join us in increasing access to the Trail through our “Give-to-Give” partnerships. For every gift of $100 or higher, the Association will donate a Trail Starter Pack (Guidebook and Trail Atlas) to two Northland community programs. Learn more about our partner programs.
Meet our 2024 Give-to-Give Community Partners
The Duluth Community School Collaborative is a nonprofit that partners with Duluth Public Schools to provide Full-Service Community Schools (FSCS) at Myers-Wilkins Elementary, Lincoln Park Middle, and Denfeld High schools.
The Duluth Community School Collaborative (DCSC) builds intentional partnerships with community organizations and individuals in order to support the academic success and well-being of the whole child. Children must have their basic needs, health needs, and social and emotional needs met to flourish.
DCSC coordinates on-site services unique to each school based on the specific needs of the students and community, and may include access to medical, dental, and mental health care services, tutoring, and other academic supports.
An example of a current DCSC program is the Wolf Den, an after-school program for elementary-aged students most impacted by COVID-19, especially those who continue to be disengaged in school. The Wolf Den includes youth-driven activities in STEAM, cultural identity, language arts and teambuilding, like “Howlin’ Hoops,” a program that uses basketball to teach life skills and engage families. Partners in this program include Myers-Wilkins Elementary staff, ISD709 Office of Education Equity, Duluth Parks & Recreation, Duluth Farm 2 School, Men as Peacemakers, and more.

For over 50 years, the Boys & Girls Clubs of the Northland has helped youth find a safe, positive place to engage in a variety of high-impact programs and activities, all with the goal of empowering them to reach their full potential.
Due to the increased need for the services they provide, the Boys & Girls Clubs of the Northland has expanded to a regional network of six Clubs in three counties that span the Duluth-Superior and Iron Range regions.
At the Dave Goldberg Club in Duluth, activities include academic support and tutoring, indoor and outdoor recreation, rock-climbing, leadership groups, STEM learning, art projects, skating, engaging and cooperative science programming, art, games, mental health supportive services and, most of all, a place to be a kid!
Boys & Girls Clubs of the Northland’s vision is to provide an exceptional Club Experience that ensures success is within reach of every young person who enters their doors. BGC wants every child to be on track to graduate from high school with a plan for the future, is practicing a healthy lifestyle, and is demonstrating good character and citizenship.
In 2022, their Clubs:
- Provided over 2,500 hours of tutoring
- Reached over 4,000 youth through memberships and community outreach programs
- Served 87,340 healthy meals and snacks to youth
